Fate and Freedom: Man, The Homecoming King by M.R. Darhaman

Fate can be a playful force in everyone’s lives. It may take us to places we didn’t want and push us to what is meant for us. Whatever it is, the universe somehow finds its way to put people together and offer love, freedom, and a lifetime adventure. This is the main premise of MR Darhaman’s Man, The Homecoming King.

Released in 2021, Man, The Homecoming King follows the story of Princess Anis, who, after being chased by the Tengku, becomes free and has the will to choose the way she will live her life. The freedom meant nobody could ever force her to do anything against her wish. With the help of Captain Man, she was able to escape the hands of her captors with no sign of anyone tailing them. The two make friends and travel toward an adventure of a lifetime. Will they conquer the challenges that fate has set for them and be able to live a life full of happiness and peace in their hearts?

M.R. Darhaman was born in Kuching, Sarawak in 1967. He is well-educated in Medium English schools and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, U.K. Currently, he is a consultant in the field of Occupational Safety and Health, and he is blessed with a happy family with a son and two daughters, residing in Dream Hill Villa in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak. His passion for writing stories with beneficial insights has led him to write a book that will bring readers into an in-depth look of the far-eastern culture一 intending to push their imagination to territories unknown. His book intends to highlight the concept of positive thinking and thinking big. This makes up for an interesting read, knowing that the far-eastern culture has traditions that do not consider individual freedom.

Darhaman’s play on the eastern culture and platonic friendships gives the readers a different perspective of man and woman relationships. Instead of romanticizing both characters and making them into the cliche friends into lovers, they remain friends and instead go on an adventure together, making the readers explore another kind of relationship. The book also brings to life a wonderful paradise, with the author’s detailing of the places in which his characters would go. Not sparing a detail continuously paints a picture that readers can easily visualize. Darhaman’s artistic way of building his characters’ personalities is also evident through the pages of each book, as each emotion and decision brought out by the characters are relatable and not far from real human experience.

Readers will be able to not only see a world full of culture and traditions but will also be able to explore them through the eyes of the characters as they too, will take the readers into a rollercoaster high and thrills of the adventure that they have, exercising the freedom that fate has endowed upon them. Definitely a book to check out for readers wanting cultural insights and the experience of having freedom for a lifetime.
